What are your thoughts on TRUTH B3031A by BEHRINGER?

I am looking to purchase powered bookshelf speakers (as i have no amp)

I hear really great things about the B3031A speakers, the ribbon tweeters sound amazing.

Musically i care about a somewhat neutral sound, but i would like especially deep punchy bass as i like to listen to dubstep sometimes. I like crystal highs, liquid mids and punchy deep attacking bass beats.

I am also interested in the Audioengine A5's.

What would you recommend for someone with my tastes for less then 500$. Also would getting a receiver and speakers be a better price/performance to powered speakers?

Powered speakers for 500 odd can be really quite good. You just  get more flexibility and options if you go with passive speakers and an amp. A5 is a good choice, KRK, M-audio, Mackie have some very good powered monitors, I'm sure you can find them locally and check them out. This is a big advantage. When it comes to passive speakers, its tough to find stuff that you can listen to locally, especially in the budget non-consumer level range. I dont know much about Behringers speakers, but they do a decent job with their gear. Its not high end, or even top quality fit and finish, but they do use good components and have a decent track record.
