If you listen to something like Amon Tobin I think the difference is outstanding. ISAM for example is ALL about the tiny details (or not so tiny details), the small crisp noises and the unbelievable quality.

And when I listen to that in 16bit / 24bit .wav versus 320kbps MP3 I do notice the difference, and it does matter. If you don't then that's fine, but I really do. And you can throw your 99% statistics at me but that would just make me the 1% I guess.

Got it on vinyl. Bought the box set last year, too. Amon Tobin really does heavily detailed stuff. One of the best Electronic producers out there.

I agree I usually tell the difference between the flac and mp3 as long the flac was created from the original source audio  CD. If some one takes a MP3 file and then converted it to flac, then I wont be able to tell a diff other then a bigger file size. Unless the flac was a 24bit/96khz recorded song that was converted to 16bit/48khz mp3,Then I def be able to tell.

I actually recall "The Bridge" by Amon Tobin being extremely hard to distinguish even between lossless and 128kbps when volume matched. The truth is that if there is a lot of sound going on, sometimes it can actually make it harder to tell a difference because a lot of stuff is masked.

If you're up for a challenge I can send you a couple of soundclips of an Amon Tobin song of your choosing ripped to 320 and lossless and see if you can so easily guess the difference between them.

I see no reason to "prove" myself. I'm just saying, I enjoy music more when it's uncompressed / lossless because I do hear the tiny differences in music I really love, and also especially music I make myself.

Then there are people who think WAV sounds better than FLAC. Expectation/belief  has a big affect on how we experience the world.

This thread's gone off course btw.

I'd be concerned if a 419 page thread wasn't going off topic every now and then.

Yeah, well those type of posts kept on coming so I didn't think anyone noticed

This and the "you know you're an audiophile when" thread have historically been very off-topic. Just don't go off on Beats-bashing tyraids or start an aftermarket cable debate and maybe, just maybe, we can keep this thread from getting locked like the YKYAAW one did. ;)
