I had to look into these Beats I hear so much of on this forum.

... google... "Beats"

I recognize them now from future shop! Never got the urge to try them... I'd like to now I think, just for the sake of saying I've heard them. :)

Word to the wise: Anything that requires celebrity endorsement to sell - likely isn't worth buying.

Thanks... was considering getting the AKG Q701, but now I think I'll just stick to the Sennheiser HD 558.

+1 so very true, and some ppl are happy enough to end in mid-fi, and the hd 650s or he-400s are definitely a great place to start!

Well, if this is true, I believe I'm kind of on the right track, starting off on the smaller stuff indeed.

I just like to comment that Head-Fi is an overwhelming forum, in the sense

there are tons of deep, technical information. I haven't found my way around

it yet, that's for sure. If I were a high school student, I'd be more resigned. But

as a 20yw+ electronic engineer, I'm a bit disappointed of how much I don't

know about the sound realm. It's really baffling.

For example, I've read some hundreds of posts about portable amps,

but still got no clue about winners. This is another thing about this forum:

winners are a mix of tech specs, granted, but some sort of personal taste

and even art appreciation. It does have its beauty indeed.

well, just my 2 cents about my first impressions sailing around. Great stuff people.

I found a rather interesting image there, Ill let it speak for itself but the general opinion of the entire thread, almost everyday, is that Grado are by far the worst things ever made to produce sound.

Heres the image.

*giant picture*

If It comes out large Im very sorry, not sure what the size was on the original post.

Please do discuss?

I really hope it's a joke, or we can successfully confirm that the headphone thread has no listening knowledge of headphones.

Parts of it either are or are based entirely on price, *cough* Edition 10 *cough*

+1, I'm following this one L3000.gif

from crappy earbuds, superlux hd 651, sennheiser px 100-II to sennheiser hd 439. I think my next stop is either a fidelio l1 or an HD 598 smily_headphones1.gif (damn head-fi you're such a wallet breaker!)

I would strongly suggest you try to demo the L1 before buying (or order from somewhere that has a good return policy) as it has a lot of midbass emphasis, which I found rather distracting.

Whoever made this image is a complete and utter idiot. Who on earth puts IEMs above headphones in terms of pure music quality?

I like even better how they put the HD598 on the bottom tier while the K701 is on the mid tier. They sound far too much alike for such a distinction to be made. What a joke.

cause hd 650s are already up there, if anything there'd be hd 600s

So? Didn't stop them from listing both the DT770 and DT880. Nor did it make them list iBuds, Beats, Skullcandies, Souls or any of the other assorted garbage passing for audiophile quality headphones.

The image I gave was edited, originally the Stax SR009 and Audeze LCD-3 were in the god tier. But they are completely serious about the placement of the Grados and assorted Sennheisers. Just looking over the thread, there were plenty of put downs for Grados, all of which saying how crappy they were. Im unsure why, I was going to ask but the thread 404d before I could.

I honestly kind of agree. Haven't found a single Grado I liked and I've heard 'em all but the rare ones and the 1000s.

Can't wait to see the mad Grado fanboys coming after that image. It does look like it's based personal preferences more than anything though.

I have a few auditions in mind for those I think might be receptive. Right now looking mournfully at the void where my HD800s and Schiit stack belong. Money has been doled out, but its gonna take a week or two. None of it auditioned. Purely trusting what I read and figured I had to start somewhere.

I agree..the masses are being brainwashed by apple beeep and dr. Dre beeep stuff and the sorts.. Its about marketing..the companies know screaming products sell more and are more receptive because of how they look to the masses...a simple design like hifiman or some other brands without multi trillion marketing budgets wont ever be widely accepted as cool or good..as their brains are programmed to like, sorry to say it, ****ty sounding stuff for the money.. But hey..thats real life..am lucky am not one of those sheep..my amp is one (if not THE most) underestimated amp i ever came across..but my god..everyone who listens to it through my he500 smile like a child who gets his icecream... Okay i admit..all hate how my he500 and especially my 337 look (i love the simple vintage look!).. They say its like those old radios for old folks..but thats their programmed minds messin with them..saying plasticly or extreme colored products are accepted as good.. Am imaking any sense here? wink.gif
