Meier Concerto VS. Ibasso D12/10 How much of a difference is there?

Hi folks,

I have a D10 and I was wondering exactly what is in the thread title. I mostly have low impedance headphones and I've tried them with hybrid amps, my tube amp, and my D10. Admittedly, I know they may not be the best choices for low impedance cans, but the differences were never substantial over the D10. If anything, I use my tube amp primarily to tame the brightness of the W1000. The W11JPN is generally used with the D10. How much would a Concerto improve over something like the D10?

I just want the best option right now and I'm thinking of upgrading to the D12 if the Concerto doesn't have enough difference. The D12 dual DACs + low price look like an attractive option too.

Thanks in advance!

I did own the D12 (and have the D4, which I find a little more powerful with the battery turned on), but the difference with my Concerto is:

HUGE!

What can I say, Head-fi is an insidious place. evil_smiley.gif

I use the D4 exclusively (mostly) with IEMs and my very efficient Edition 8LEs. The D4 (and the D10...which I found has slightly less juice) could not sufficiently power all of my other full sized cans. But on the go, it did an admirable job ( <--- read in....only used "on the go").

The Concerto can very easily drive my HD800s (300 ohms), T1s (600 ohms), and LCD-2s (50 ohms). It surprisingly does very well with IEMs too. It background noise floor is dead black which is why it works so well with really sensitive IEMs like the Shure SE535s or Westone 3s.

I'm sorry your wallet had to hear this.

I usually find bigger differences in SQ with amps/headphones. After that's taken care of, then the DAC should be next. While I do prefer my PS Audio DAC more than my D4 or D10 (as DACs), the differences were not as wide as with the amping.

Here's how I would rank the DACs that I've owned recently:

PS Audio DLIII > DacMagic > D4 > D10 (not by much) > USB Thingee > uDac

But again, I'd first invest in the headphones/amp.

You meant that tongue-in-cheek right?

I, for one, would love to hear a feedback like that, as it means an opportunity for a noticeable step up in listening pleasure.

x2. I own both and while the D12 is decent, they are not in the same league.
