Would a reasonably priced RCA-cable give me any improvement in sound? - Page 3

Here's what is connecting (some of) my components: http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=102&cp_id=10218&cs_id=1021803&p_id=2865&seq=1&format=1#largeimage

12 feet, 75 ohm, 22 AWG, gold plated. For $3.47. eek.gif biggrin.gif

Even though I probably don't have enough high-end components to tell any sound difference, it is a great deal, and it feels like the cable is pretty much indestructible. The same cable is also available in sizes down to 1.5 feet in length (and no, I don't work for Monoprice, just a happy customer).

The only reason that gold plated connectors are used is because gold is resistant to corrosion. That's it. No snake oil.

I think that gold conducts better than copper oxide.

Sure, but gold certainly doesn't 'sound' better than copper. ;)

Good choice (what I use and recommend). Better to save your hard-earned $ for purchasing recordings or going to live shows.

Heh, cheap ones for sure. =D But then, if I´m not expecting any special change in the first place, no matter what I buy, do I want to pay even that for something so cheap looking? Only improvement over my current cables would be gold plating and as said, it makes no difference in normal conditions.

No, no improvement in sound, but it will last longer. I helped a mate tidy and dust behind his hifi setup a while back, something which had not been done for a few years eek.gif

One IC looked brand new, a £20 one from Cambridge. The other cheapo out of the box ones were corroding. The setup sounded better as I cleaned all of the ICs. So it is worth spending some money. I use a DIY Neutrik Rean and Van Damme cable.

Yes an improvement in sound, but only your ears will tell you if you find it worth the money.

I believe there is a high likelihood that you will notice a difference. However, sometimes the difference is nothing more than establishing a clean connection that is often the outcome of swapping IC's. You could also try cleaning the existing contacts (Caig works pretty well), both female and male connectors, and reinsert with a bit of as twist for a solid connection. Notice a difference?

As for cables themselves? Yes, I believe you could hear a difference with some nice cables too, but just try the cleaning thingy above first.
