Bottlehead Crack Group Buy!

New info:

We need 12 people minimum to get a discount of 15% which end up being ~$180 for the kit.  For the speedball upgrade, we would also need 12 people, otherwise the price will remain the same.

Well we have 12 people.  I figure we will keep this thread open for one more week, and then get the ball rolling on payments.  After 1-9-2011 we will not add anymore individuals to the group buy.  If you're committed to the amp and also want the Speedball upgrade, now is the time to do so.

Yeah, I'm interested as long as the price is decent.

Count me in also, if the price is right.

Would this be just for the Crack and not the Speedball upgrade.

I tried contacting bottlehead last week and they never got back to me.  I would like to see what pricing would look like with and without the speedball.  I have heard both and the speedball deffinitely is a marked improvement.

You might want to try posting to their forum.

I've always gotten a quick response to questions via email -- but your missive may have been eaten in their spam filter.

Just wanted to say that the Australian group buy was a huge success. Doc B is a great lad who worked everything out for us.

Alright folks, I talked to Doc B, who seems like a very nice guy.  We would have to get 12 minimum to get a 15% discount, which end up being around $180 for the kit.  If you want the speedball upgrade, it will be regular price, unless we can get 12 people who also want this, which would be around $85 more for the speedball.

Ive never organized a group buy so im not exactly sure how this works, but i will put myself down as the first person committed.  I figure once we have 12 people, well pull the trigger on the buy.

Thanks Momiji, we were very excited to be able to put the buy together with you mates. And we would certainly be more than happy to work up a similar buy for Head-Fier's. I just had a nice conversation with zlobby and I see he has already filled everyone in on the pricing and minimums. I should mention up front that these kits have been flying out of here since we introduced them in April and we tend to have a backlog. So please be prepared to wait a couple/three weeks for us to get the parts for your kits together once we receive the order.

To zlobby - typically the best way to do this is one person volunteers to be the collector of commitments to order, funds and shipping info. If you look at the group buy thread over at OCAU

http://forums.overclockers.com.au/showthread.php?t=902735

you can see how DeejW did a very efficient job of tracking and logging who committed to buy in the top post of the thread. He also did a yeoman job of wrangling the funds and getting them to us via Paypal, and sent us a followup email with shipping info. I'll keep one eye on the developments over here and help in any way I can.

Thanks for starting this up, zlobby. I'm interested in the Crack minus the Speedball. Since I live in Canada, what can I expect the shipping costs to be?  Or would this be another one of those CONUS only deals?

The $180 I quoted is for the kit not including the shipping. I think we can come up with a standardized shipping price for US and Canadian orders and ship the orders directly if you want to limit it to those countries. Don't have that figure yet, but I will ask Eileen to work up the numbers. I don't think we will be able to mix orders from other countries in with this group buy and be able to ship directly to the buyers because the international shipping costs are all over the place. If you guys want to do a worldwide group buy instead we could ship all the kits to a single address in the US for a head-fi volunteer to handle the final distribution. That will of course create a bit higher shipping cost for the end user since the kits get shipped twice.

Now if you can come up with the minimum order by area, for example 12 buyers in the US, 12 buyers in EUC, 12 buyers in Canada, etc., as happened with the OCAU group buy, we could break each of those group buys up into sub groups by shipping type and rate. I know, it gets complicated really fast. Handling shipping efficiently and with cost effectiveness is probably the biggest hassle in running a small business these days. Well, after all those stunningly beautiful groupies hanging around and asking for autographs of course.

Understood, Doc B. I certainly would want to avoid double shipping as that likely negates any savings had from the group buy. The standardized shipping for US & Canada sounds fantastic. Though I actually wouldn't mind paying a bit more than US buyers for shipping if that helps. Count me in zlobby!

I spoke a bit too soon, my apologies. Looks like shipping to Canada is $35 and shipping in the US is $15. We can still handle both US and Canadian orders in one group, but we will have to charge that extra $20 to ship any order going to a Canadian address. While on the subject, we just got a notice that UPS rates will be increasing by 5% as of January 1st.

Count me in zlobby for the Crack OTL Headphone Amp Kit.

You can also add me to the Speedball Upgrade.  I understand, if 12 people don't choose this option it's the regular price.

Thanks for stating this GB.

That's completely reasonable. I'm still in. biggrin.gif
