Cheap headphones that are better quality than Monster beats solo?

I heard my friend's monster beats a couple days ago and they sounded good (i'm not an audiophile, infact i dont even own any headphones, only a pair of HTC earphones i got with my htc desire). Is there any cheap headphones i can get that are as good or better than them? More specifically, how would the Sennheiser HD 202 compare to them? Or would i have to get something a bit more expensive like the PX 100?

Thanks for any and all opinions.

audio technica ath m50, they are a little over $100 if you order them from amazon. they sound great too. watch this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zD2WrfZiy2k

this guy compares and contrasts beats and the m50

^ I'd say that the PX100 are better than the monster beats by a mile (you won't find much love for the beats on head-fi).  But I'm shocked at how expensive they've gotten- I bought them a few years ago for about 40$.  Koss PortaPro are reputed to have a very good sound quality, on par with the PX100 and are still very inexpensive.  Grado SR60 are also very good for the price.  If you want good closed headphones (that block ambient sounds), you might consider  ATH-M50.

How cheap is cheap?

Around $60 is my price range. Grado's are looking mighty pleasant right now. I see reviews saying they're comparable to $200 headphones. How true is that? Can I get any opinions from someone whos heard/owns the 60i?

Edit: Damn that youtube video has me considering the M50's, but they're too expensive for my university/no current job life...

If you're looking for the bass impact of the Beats, then you should look at the Shure 750's (Though, i'm not sure if they're as impactful)

The M50's do not have the same impact as the Beats, but they have a further bass extension, meaning, you can hear bass at the lower frequencies. The M50's are more laid-back than the beats, but still have a nice bass.

Grado's, as i've heard, are the opposite of Beats. They're more emphasized on the Mids and up, and not on the bass

Grados have a unique sound signature, it's a love 'em or hate 'em type of headphones. What kind of music do you listen to?

I like to listen to hiphop/rap, classical, a lot of melodic stuff (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jT2ls8rMrkA) as well as the occaisonal rock. Bass isn't overly important for me, but I do like it. I like clear, nice sound.. I don't really know the terms to describe, but however the music in the link above is described.

Edit: I really, really like instrumentals mixed with some rap, such as this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=26GNjcQjh5Y,

Or just pure instrumentals like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BQjEJaa0Yuc&feature=related

I listened to the first two through my Grado SR60s, I am also a new to the audiophile scene and I don't have an opinion that is as full and rich as basically anyone here, but disregarding the low bitrate that youtube has I think Grado would be a good place to look. The SR60 or SR80 are just a bit over your price range if you look at Amazon.com. The SR60s are comfortable and I can wear them without having to adjust for a decent amount of time. They create a sound that I thought was impossible before hearing them, they were my first headphones I owned other than junk. The cons of Grado's is that they aren't exactly portable, some people don't find them stylish, and the bass isn't magnificent, but for the price they are great headphones and I highly recommend them.

Here is a link to the headphones on amazon:

Lol if you are not interested in bass, why in the world would you consider the beats? lol

I never wanted to buy the beats, I merely said they sounded good because I never listened to "high" quality headphones before the beats, and I do like Bass to a certain extent but it's not the driving force in my musical tastes.

Thanks for the information Nigforce. I think i'm leaning towards the grados. :)

If anybody has anymore input to put towards what I should get, I would very much appreciate it!

I actually found the solo's to be absolute garbage.

If Beats Solos sound impressive, almost anything on this site will make you poop yourself XO

You can add the Audio Technica ES7 as a stylish closed back portable alternative.

i am also a newbie..i had the koss ksc75 initially..it sounded great..but then i went to sr60i and i loved the grado much much more. i think you will love those. they should be great for rock n stuff as they are good at mid and higher frequencies (treble related frequencies i think)..But they also have good enough bass. since they are open cans, sound is better than the closed hd205 i have. compared to hd205 (which is supposed to be good in bass), grado are not much behind in bass..

Damnit. I'm from Canada and found out that I can't order from Amazon.com. I'll have to settle for Sennheiser PX 100. Not even the newer PX 100-II. :(

Canada, you're great and all, but sometimes I hate living in you...

How would you guys rate the PX 100?
