External Audio Interface/DAC Better than my Auzentech Forte?

So I have two active monitors (KRK Rokit RP8G2's) and with them I bought an M-AUDIO Firewire Solo to listen to them with (was recommended to me). But the M-AUDIO Firewire Solo didn't work and I managed to get a refund. So that leaves me wondering - what now? I have these thick XLR to Balanced TRS Cables sitting here and it makes me feel bad I'm sending audio to my speakers from a measly 1/8" stereo plug. I also have an extra $100 sitting around, and I wouldn't mind getting something nifty to improve my speaker's sound (and maybe even something I can use to record guitar, like the Firewire solo?). My budget would be $200. Would it be worth it to grab an external DAC or should I stick with my Auzentech Forte?

(And to be honest, I haven't even tried the Forte with these speakers yet, I have them hooked up to my XtremeGamer and I didn't want to swap the cards/drivers if I was just going to get something external).

you are asking for a lot for 200 IMO, any audio card you get for that money the preamp inputs are going to be junk. an interesting though might be to get ibassos Boomslang balanced portable dac, but you would need an adapter cable. this thing really is quite a bit of dac for the money and only slightly above your budget. so IMO just concentrate on whats important getting good audio OUT of your computer. it will take hirez over its optical or coax and you can take that from your computer yes?

Hey, thanks for the recommendation. Forget about my budget - I'll take any recommendations, as long as the emphasis is on value. I'll take a look at the Boomslang now. By the way, can you point out for me what adapter cable I'd need? From what I can see about the Boomslang, it takes USB too, right? Wouldn't that be the preferred input? Or am I wrong? I can do optical though.
