Larger capacity battery for Discman D-25?

Thread Starter

Hello all,

I recently acquired an NIB Discman D-25s from ALO, along with the replacement Li-ion pack, BLI-215. A short search came up with the manufacturer of this particular pack, Empire.

Thing is, it doesn't charge well within the D-25s: the Charge indicator would blink for about 20 minutes, then shut off. Multiple repeats and the battery is only half charged (indicated by the D-25s). So instead of contacting ALO about potential problems and whatnot, and shipping fees and whatnot, I just went to buy a universal charger.

Also an unrelated side note: sometimes the player would shut off if I press down on the cover while holding the bottom plate. Hmm.

Anyway. The pack charged fully in 30 minutes with that charger, and I get, what do you know, an hour and a half of play time, with the volume dial at 2. The original BP-2 battery, presumably lead-acid, is said to last 2 hours. So there's that.

So right now I'm searching for a larger capacity BP-2 replacement. The Empire BLI-215 is only 650mAh. I mean if they can fit 1800mAh into a Gumstick and 2350mAh into an AA, they should be able to fit more into the BP-2 (which is about twice the size of an AA), right. Then those high-capacity batteries are Ni-MH while the BLI-215 is Li-ion. But no matter, the universal charger charges all.

Anything? Or am I stuck with a single hour of musical heaven per day? Don't exactly feel like pulling 2 Discmen and 2 pairs of HP's with me.

Searches return with some other model numbers, all 650mAh.

Thank you very much.

Hello,

I've just bought a battery for my D-25. The exact part number is BP-2X PL2B-248 and it has 600mA capacity. It took about 80 - 90 minutes for a full charge inside the D-25 and i got 4 hours of use with the volume dial at 2. It was still playing when i decided to charge it again, so what i can tell you for sure is that with this battery you get at least 4 hours of play time. I don't know if it has something to do with the charging time but the power adapter i use it's a 9V 1000mA.

In my country this battery costs about 12 euro shipped. I hope this helps, bye bye

For those of us in the US, you can purchase this battery at the following link:

Just a little remark about charging this battery inside the D-25. When using the original or a higher amp charger, eventhough the battery remains cool, some areas of the pcb inside the unit get EXTREMELY hot. This can't be good... so, when charging, i use a 9V 300mA wall wart. The charging time has increased but the D-25 gets only slighlty warm.

andreu, how did you access the pcb to check the temperature?

I think he meant that it can get quite hot and you can feel the heat on the exterior of the pcdp when you touch it.
