Orthos suddenly come back to life?

I'm not sure why, but I have two orthos the Yamaha YH-1s and YH-3s. The YH-1s willl have problems at times where one side will not produce sound, and other times it will come back. I'd say this happens maybe 10 - 25% of the time. My YH-3s were fine for a while, then when I sold them, they arrived with one side not producing sound, so I refunded the buyer. I decided to keep them, and see if they could be fixed or what not. So, for maybe 6 months I left them in the closet for a while and plugged them back in and they are working again. It doesn't seem to be a cable problem because I don't lose or gain sound when moving the cable, so what gives? Why does this happen on and off?

Could be anything from crud on the plug to a solder joint going bad to corrosion inside the driver. Start by eliminating the easy stuff first. Polish up the plug, then reflow all the solder joints, and so on. The good news is folks have fixed just about every possible failure on the Ortho Roundup thread.
