why do these setups sound so mediocre? - Page 6

There's a whole forum for organising meets, and also a dedicated forum just for "impressions" threads after the fact.  You're most welcome to start a thread to organise a meet yourself.  If you start getting the interest of more than a handful of people, you might want to ponder a place to have the meet which has plenty of power points, tables and chairs and refreshments or the like.

Gear mentioned in this thread:

That is unfortunate my friend! :(

I hear what you are saying. buying a piece of audio equipment without listening to it is like buying a painting without seeing it.

and trust me if I finally find a setup that is good enough, I will buy 24 bit 96KHz recordings from HDtracks.

Sure, I understand. The somewhat throwaway comment was just alluding to the fact that a new state of the art recording may involve its own compromises : it may not be a recording of your preferred performance. Good example, check out Alexandra Wilson's choices when she did  BBC Building a Library programmes on two Puccini operas.

Hope you can get that meet sorted out. But, hey, studies come first right? ;)

 :) yep you called it!

I have exams now actually and after that I am going to my parents house for the holidays. I would love to get the meeting going but there should be a more experienced headfier to do that. I mean I have very little equipment and I am not very experienced, it just doesnt make sense that I be a host to it.

are you in Waterloo?!

Actually I'm from England. We don't have a Waterloo University just a Trafalgar Square: a place where students and prospective students can go to learn about the police technique of "kettling" demonstrations before they collapse from hypothermia.

Good luck with those exams.
