Great and Simple DAC

Thread Starter

Hi there, I used to own a EMU 0404 USB, sound was great, but it's bulky, drivers are not so good, and I don't use MIDI and all it's extras, just plug-in my headphones and speakers. (Audio Technica ATH-A900 and M-Audio AV-40)

I'm looking for a similar or better quality DAC, preferably without drivers (or very good ones, Windows 7 x64 support with EMU was terrible at first) and AMP is not needed (AV-40 are active speakers and I think they do a good job for the HP amp), I like the USB DAC Cable, but I think my headphones could benefit from a better DAC and I would also like to upgrade them eventually.

Although I'm open for ideas, DIY and even special motherboards or sound cards are also welcome. (I'm a PC hardware distributor)

Cheers!

ZeroDAC with USB is a good unit- I use one.

For DIY,  eBay seller gigawork BIG DAC is a good unit as well.
