I ordered a pair of Beyerdynamic DT 770s 250 ohm and they should arrive tomorrow and I know that I'll get more out of them with an amp, problem is that I don't have a headphone amp. Would it be advisable at all to use my old Crate BX-15 while I save up to get an actual headphone amp? A user told me that the FiiO E5 isn't really sufficient for driving 770s, would a CMOY be any better? That's where my price range is at the moment, but if it will only make a small difference I might as well save that money to go towards something that will really let the headphones shine through.
Anyway, here are the specifications of my old amp.
From what I can tell it should be more than capable of delivering enough power to the headphones, but the highs and lows are going to be lacking. Is that correct or am I way off base here?
EDIT: I guess what I'm really asking is if there is any point in using this amp at all or if there's any chance any harm will be done to either the headphones or the computer that I'll be using as the music source.
