Orchestra + Rock?

I don't know how else to explain it,

I'm looking for songs similar to Rammstein's "Mein Herz Brennt" and "Ohne Dich".

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9pkLDEEs20U

To try and give you an example of the "sound":

-Lord of the Rings/movie orchestra score

-the deep guitar distortion of an expensive tube amplifier setup

-nice wooden drum kit with deep bass drum and nice "bright" cymbals

-the lyrics of a story (whether it's love or death, anything really, doesn't matter)

I've tried listening to some of the symphonic metal but I just can't deal with the Opera singers (I know, Till Lindemann does this and emphasizes/rolls his "R's") but i have yet to find an Opera-like singer that can co-exist with the instruments...

*The sound is more "Ohne Dich" since it doesn't have some of those Opera-esque chords like in "Mein Herz Brennt" (chords are at 00:58-1:20, 2:07-2:19, 3:05-3:28, 4:14-End)

Hmm, the video you sent had audio, but there were no "rock" guitars/drums, just movie soundtrack/orchestral instruments... Looking into this stuff deeper, thanks for the suggestion =)

Nightwish,Within Temptation,Epica, Savatage,Metallica's S&M just to name a few off the top of my head.

EDIT: Re-read your post, you might not like Nightwish because of the vocals.

I really love symphonic goth metal, but I like it with operatic female vocals. It's one of my favorite current genres. Nightwish, Epica, Theater of Tragedy, Sirenia, Tristania, Delain, Within Temptaion, Darkwell, etc etc. Just love it all. But I dig the female opera singers fronting the symphonic metal.

X2. I love the Nightwish album and some of the other artists you mentioned (Within Temptation is incredible.) I would add Lacuna Coil, as the Shallow Life is a great album. The opera singers take it to another level.

Which symphonic metal bands did you check out and not like? Ill see if i can recommend some after I hear the songs and get more information.

This is always a great one

Try Therion - Gothic Kabbalah.  My favourite album of the 00s.

I too have to suggest Therion.  Gothic Kabbalah, Lemuria, and Sirius B are great albums.  They have a new one out, but I have yet to hear it.

Symphony X is another good one.  The Odyssey is by far my favorite album of theirs.

Also try Nightwish as others have suggested.

So, from listening to this song:

00:00-2:00 is pretty good (not really a fan of the "choir" in the background in THIS song)

2:00-4:16 instrumentals are great, however I'm not a fan of her voice or the lyrics, unfortunately...

4:16-5:52 the violin and the orchestra with her vocals/timbre matching with the instruments here is good (her "lighter voice", really beautiful actually =)

5:52-6:19 still pretty good (not a fan of the background "opera" vocals)

6:19-7:12 instruments are good, though not a fan of her lyrics

7:12-end Instruments are pretty good, though still Opera feel

Great recommendation, it's very "interesting" to say the least. Unfortunately I'm just not a fan of her Opera like voice and her singing when she's almost talking in the song or when she's got that "deeper" tone (but when she matches her voice/timbre matches with her "lighter" voice, that's pretty neat-like the Charlotte Chruch style)

Hope this makes sense =)

Thanks for being willing to help =)

That Lord of the Rings song was good, just not a fan of her "deeper" voice and when she's singing like telling a story... Also, the lyrics weren't really "right" for me. However, the "lighter" /Charlotte Church is great though: that blends well. Thanks for the suggestion/link! =)Quote:

-Listened to the song "Gothic Kabbalah" - This is like Metallica Opera (instruments-wise/chord progressions/etc.). Not a fan of lyrics or that Opera voice...

-The song "Perennial Sophia" was pretty neat, actually. That woman voice is beautiful, I could enjoy that. Not a fan of his James Hetfield/'Opera'tic voice here (1:03-1:33 and in his other parts in the song). The lyrics I don't mind because the female vocals/instrumentation is great.

Thanks though!

Thanks for all the suggestions everyone! I hope my "criticisms" may have helped honed in on what I like. I'm eager to hear what you all have to recommend know that you know how "picky" I am. =)

Lacuna Coil's "Enjoy the Silence" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lx58hXh4pVA) = I first thought I was listening to a "Rock" band (Evanescence), but then I heard Orchestral strings in the background. I like these female vocals here, not TOO Operatic. Catchy, I'll investigate them further =)

Oh, Shallow Life album? Listened to the title track (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yro4Hn5MVXs). Wow, pretty neat connection between instrumentals/vocals here. The Orchestra is "lighter" in this band (so far, after listening to just 2 songs) = compared to the other recommended songs the others mentioned. However, there are no guitars/distortion... But good recommendation. Lacuna Coil seems interesting now, Thank You.

WHOOPS - I just realized I made a bunch of new posts; I should've added all these quotes and responses into one, sorry forum admin! Hope the cost of your bandwidth/space doesn't goes up... Dammit.
