I don't quite get it though. What "seal"? These are external phones not in-ear ones like Ety's so it is not the same thing...My ears aren't big, average-sized I'd say. How exactly do you place the PX200's on your ears to get a "good seal"?
What waffenschmidt said It's funny -- you wouldn't think they would "seal," but if you move them around a bit, eventually you should fine a position that seals better than others and all of a sudden the bass and treble -- especially the bass -- suddenly get much better! It's really a revalation once you hit that spot.

P.S. The KSC-35 are still my favorites, especially for portable use, but the PX 200 are a bit more neutral.

McD: Sorry for answering for you, but like you say, it's pretty obvious when you have played with these things for a while.
You definitely know it when you find the right spot.

I have decided to buy the px200 for when i need isolation and another pair for when I don;t.
Which is the best (budget) phones for really good bass?
So far I have heard good things about the Koss 35's, 55's & SportaPro. Anyone have any preferences? from what i hear the 35's are the best...

for under 50$, the ksc-35 are best. i've had the portapro..they sound good but headband messes up your hair...

OKC, I think you'll be happy with your decision. I, too, bought both the PX200s and the KSC35s following the same logic.

I'm reasonably sure the consensus would be that the KSC35s are your best bet for the "open" headphone you're looking for. While I'm sure there are a few dissenters, most here would say that it's the best sounding of the options you're considering.

As I've said before, I personally have found the 35s to have too much bass for my tastes. I know some here will agree with my assessment, but most seem to find the 35s quite enjoyable.

thanks waffenschmidt, IS20,
I still don't know ...........of all the earphones the k35's look really cheap, I like the look of the K55's and I heard that the sound is potentially as good as the k35's is they fit your ear + I've heard the bass on the sportapro's is awesome, although you will probably say it is too much....
Apart from exaggerated bass & it messing up yer ear, are there any other big weaknesses with the sportapro's?

IIRC, the KSC35, KSC50, KSC55, SportaPro and PortaPro all use the same drivers. They all fit the ear differently and thus sound somewhat different. Because fit impacts sound on these phones and everyone's ears are different, it's hard to predict exactly which are going to work best for you. Invariably in these discussions the KSC35 is the consensus pick, but there are supporters of most of the other models too.

I suppose the KSC35s might look cheap, but that's strictly in the eye of the beholder. Heck, you could say they all look cheap. Let's face it, they all are cheap. Depends on what you're looking for and what's important to you.

From a comfort standpoint, I never got used to the ear clips on the KSC35s. After an hour or so they started to bother me. Others can wear them all day long and never notice them.

I've read in this forum that the KSC55s are overly tight on some people's heads, but I have no personal experience with them.

At some point you have to go with your gut feel and just try one of them out. If whatever one you try doesn't work out for you, sell it on the Buy/Sell forum, accept your $10 loss (or whatever it is) and try something else.
