Rewiring PX 200 II

Hi everyone. First time on the forum so please bear with me.

I have a newbie question on recabling my PX 200 II. I didn't like the inline volume control so decided to cut it out and shorten the cable at the same time. When I cut the cable I discovered 4 four wires, red, green, blue and copper. I assumed that red was right channel, green left and copper ground but where do i solder the blue wire to. I looked insided the volume control and it looked liked blue and copper were soldered togehter. I tried that but it didn't work. Anybody have any suggestions?

did you remember to burn off the plastic coating on the wire before soldering. also do you mean there is no sound at all if not switch positions of the green and blue and test again. trial and error is the best way to learn if you don't have a multimeter

Hi, thanks for the reply.

Yes I tinned the wires before soldering. I have established that the red wire is definitely the right channel, I got that to work, but the blue and green are my problem. I have tried swopping them but it doesn't work. I of course always end up with one (blue or green) which I don't know where to put. I took a look inside the left earpiece and it seems I could just de-solder the blue? wire and then ignore it in the jack? Sorry to be a bother but i don't have a multimeter.

I find tinning the wire doesn't always remove the plastic coating on the wire especially true for cheaper soldering irons. I sometimes use a lighter to burn off the plastic coating first.

He Nagasaki Kid,

Thanks, I took your advice and burned off the plastic with a lighter and managed to get good solder joints. BTW after trial and error I found the correct wiring: red=right, green = left and blue and copper = ground.

Thanks again.
