Looking for new player, currently use Clip

So currently I'm using a clip and Vmoda IEMs.  I like the clip and it works good enough at the gym which is where I use it the most.  The downside is the small screen and cycling through things.  I'd like something with more of a screen and have been looking at the J3 although I don't know how much of a value it is at that price but that's not a big sticking point anyway.  I just want something that sounds good, looks good, and is not too bulky.  I've looked at the S9 but that looks a little bulkier than the J3 correct? I've also looked at the Fuze and am not sure how that compares to the J3.

Also I have a Samsung Vibrant(Galaxy S) phone that has 16gb, how does the SQ on this compare to what I'm looking for in the portable market?

Just to add, I'm probably going to upgrade my IEM's as well, have been looking at the RE0 or maybe the Triple.Fi 10 if they go on sale again.

Help me out guys.  I'm liable to waste my money on something pretty quick.  I'm an impulsive buyer lol.

You should look into the Zune HD, you can get the 16GB model on Amazon for $150. It has an incredible screen and great sound quality.

I can vouch for the S9 or J3, there's a few up in the classifieds now, Cowon DAPs have excellent SQ with EQ presets on.

I hadn't thought about the Zune.  I've always liked them a lot as far as looks go.  They don't have an expansion slot though do they? I've always had a preference towards Cowon since I had my X5l but I will check the Zune out for sure.  I like the looks of the J3 a lot more than the S9 and more importantly the size of it.  The S9 just complicates things by it being so cheap online.

I've never ever been convinced by Zune and hence wouldn't recommend them. Have you considered the Sansa Fuze, big bro of the humble Clip+?

If that still doesn't fit the bill I think the J3 is the way to go, it's far superior to the S9 in my opinion.

I've got the Fuze in mind too, in my personal opinion it doesn't look as good as the Cowon or Zune so I had it down the list.  But it's much cheaper than the Cowon and I've taken the Zune out of the running now.  So now it's just a matter of value.  If they were both the same price, I'd get the J3 no question.  It's more an issue of this being a potential Christmas present.  I'm an impulsive buyer, so I pretty much buy whatever I want, so when the holidays come around, it's hard for me to tell people what I want when they ask me.  But it happens that I'm in need(want) of a new player and my mom wants to know what to get me.  I know she'd have no issue getting a J3, but I just don't know how I feel asking for something so expensive.

I've decided to go with the Fuze but I have a couple questions on it.  Am I limited in the microsd expasion as in can I use a 32gb card in there or will it only recognize up to 16gb?

Also I use rhapsody music service in addition to my own collection of music and my current clip works fine with it and I see that the Fuze is a compatible device for it.  But if I rockbox the Fuze, does anyone know if I'd still be able to use it with rapsody?

If it means anything to you, the Zune does not have any EQ capabilities -- you are stuck with it's default sound setting -- no adjustments at all except volume, even though it does have a good, warmish sound.

Fuze can handle microSD up to 32 gb.

With Rockbox on a Fuze, to add new files you have to plug in the USB cable to the Fuze when it is powered off so that the native Fuze software controls file loading and updating.  When finished adding files, unplug the Fuze, turn it off and turn it back on again and during the Rockbox boot, it updates its database with the new files added.  I don't think Rockbox can interact with Rhapsody, but I may be wrong.

Oh okay well that's cool.  I had rockbox on my old x5l so it's nice to hear that the dual boot option is still there. Now I've just got to wait until christmas lol.

The Zune HD has EQ presets.
