Credit card company claims payment not received

Hello HeadFiers,

A credit card of mine was declined today, so I called them up and asked why. They claim to have never received a payment for last month. I did sent the bill, so it must have gotten lost in the mail.

I asked them to resend the bill so I can pay it, but appearently I'm being dinged with a $25 late fee.

I really don't care about the $25 late fee, what I care about is my credit score. I didn't do anything wrong.

What effect is this going to have on my credit score? It has been flawless except for this.

Make the payment and ask them not to report a late payment. If you've been good, most of them
will do this.

Online bill payment is the only way to avoid these problems. It's not always 100% perfect, but it's the fastest most efficient way to make payments, and at least you will have a paper trail you can reference in the event something goes wrong.

I too recently had a similar problem with my credit card company. Although I sent the payment, they said they never received the payment. Now the burden is on my side to prove that I did send the payment on time. After several weeks of tracing my payment, I finally able to prove that the credit card company deposited the money order that I sent but never credited my account.

They also credited my account with the late payment penalty as well. If you have been good customer, most likely they will give back your late penalty payment, just talk to them. As far as credit score, one little mishap shouldn't affect you too much. Good luck.

What a pain in the ass. Usually companies will look past it if you've been good otherwise, I'd give them a call and explain again the situation and ask them to not report it.

I minimize the use of my credit card so I have mine set for auto-pay and always make sure that the account it is linked to has enough money to cover my credit limit (not just what I expect to spend). That way, I only sweat for the first month and when the first auto-pay goes through, I know it will work or what I need to fix and then, I can ignore it for the most part.
