Sup guys 1st post ^^

I just bought a pair of audio technica ATH-CK100 from ebay for $400USD (including postage) - a decision derived from the information gathered here at head-fi :{D.

I'm by no means as developed in audiophilia as some of you people here, but purchasing a good pair of IEM's has been on my mind for a looooooong time - and I've finally taken the leap of faith.

So....

what do you guys think i can expect?

any thoughts at all? C:

Nice, I really want either the ck10 or ck100 (prolly 10 because of the smaller housing) but I keep getting sidetracked (like buying trifle.fi 10 and thinking of getting it custom) etc etc...

Let us know your impression and perhaps I will be so jealous to get off my butt and just grab one :)

I dont understand :( - I mean, I've had the ath-ad700's before and i know they were excellent - but i dont think the apple earphones are necessarily bad - would my ck100's really be that much better?

I think his tonge was firmly in his cheek when he said that! And yes, they are much better in sound quality. The apple phones in my opinion are not terrible but for what they cost should you replace like for like there are better phones out there. Having said that if you are listening to 128kbps then I would stick with the apple ones. I see absloutely no point in having great headphones with anything less than lossless. That opens a huge can of worms but one of the things great headphones do is reveal layers of information lesser ones don't, Lossless I find allows the headphone to really live up to it's intended purpose giving much more emotion to the music...But then, that is just how I feel!

IME the songs you download from itunes are noticably better quality than 128kbps, so you should be fine. Even with the CK100 it doesn't necessarily have to be lossless to sound good. Nevertheless you'll hear the difference between well and badly produced recordings much clearer than with your Apple earphones, but that would be the same with lossless.

Buy some CDs and rip'em in .wav smily_headphones1.gif

Enjoy your CK100s. I absolutely love my CK10s, but never got the guts to pony up the cash for the 100s

there has never been, and probably never will be a good deal for these.  haha.  unless you're looking at them used, and even then, its a stretch.

you should look at what you're using as a DAP.  because i believe these are rather source dependent for maximum performance.

I might actually have to start buying cd's now :).

But anyways - do any of you guys reckon it would be worth it to buy a portable am for my ck100's?

Don't forget to burn in the CK100. It sounds extremely cold (which I DIG) and its a lot warmer now.

The instrumental separation is awesome. :D
