Today's replacement for a Gilmore Lite? - Page 2

Like the title says, I'm wondering if such an amp qualifies to take the title of a modern day replacement of the Gilmore Lite; something solid state, sounds great, and costs a few hundred.

Something a "tier down" from the GL's sound works too, since this will be used for a college rig; not much time to relax and listen to the nuances. tongue.gif

Thanks!

Be interesting to see what you come up with as a choice.

There's lots of new SS options floating around in the sub $400 tier.

To be honest, I don't think anything has bettered the basic "gilmore dynamic"

topology for a purpose built inexpensive headphone amp still to this day.

A lot of the <$400 amps currently getting forum love are op-amp with discrete buffer

designs like black cube clones. Pretty much the antithesis of the Gilmore design.

Over the last 5-6 years I've owned a Glite, a GS-1, 5 different dynalos, and

a Dynahi/mite. I keep coming back to the design, there is just something

"right" about the way it sounds.

If you can't find a reasonable price on a used Glite/DPS or want to wait for the

Gilmore x2 release, I'd say build or commision a Dynalo & S22. The rev C Dynalo

boards paired with a S22 are sonically every bit the amp the GLite/DPS is. Matching

the Headamp fit and finish will be a trick though.

I know this is really old now, but what happened to the "Gilmore Lite X2"

Not to be a nag Justin, but I'm hoping your plan to do a re-run of GSX early next year is still in the works. My timing is off---as I hope to do the BHSE in a year right when you're currently ramping up production.
