Today's replacement for a Gilmore Lite?

Howdy everyone, been out of the loop for awhile.

Like the title says, I'm wondering if such an amp qualifies to take the title of a modern day replacement of the Gilmore Lite; something solid state, sounds great, and costs a few hundred.

Something a "tier down" from the GL's sound works too, since this will be used for a college rig; not much time to relax and listen to the nuances. tongue.gif

Thanks!

There are tons of used Glites with and w/out the DPS on the FS section for very very good prices (~425 for both, I saw $200 for just the amp).

Nice seeing familiar avatars around here. smile.gif

The Gilmore X2 does seem like a very potent successor of the Gilmore family. But Logwed, you do raise a good point about the FS section. And most college students can't raise $600 overnight.

It's going to feel weird having two Gilmore Lites...

It probably does feel weird to have two GLites, but they are probably one of the best bang for your buck amps out there.  El_Doug and I both agreed they drove the LCD2 beautifully.  Might not be perfect for others but it took the LCD2 out there enough to hear how great they sound.

Hmm...well, there's another Dynalo amp called the Sheer Audio HA-006, and its "premium" version, the HA-006+. It's gotten good feedback.

Stepping away from the dynalo design, purity audio also makes good amps.

It's still Gilmore Lite ;)

Your signature makes me so sad. We all miss you very very much!

I can't wait for a direct comparison between a Gilmore Lite with DPS and a Gilmore X2.

Mythless, I think that he's saying that there isn't another substitute for the Gilmore Lite, or that it's readily available enough to not require a substitute.

I spoke to Justin a little while ago about the Gilmore x2 and it seems like a fine amp. It's not a direct successor to the GLite though. He told me it would be geared more toward lower impedance headphones like Grado or the newer high end custom IEM than higher impedance 'phones like the HD800, T1 or the top planars. One advantage Justin is looking at is the optional built in DAC. Section. So before you buy make sure the new amp will suit your particular headphone.

Well, I really do like my Caliente. But judging from how the thread title was phrased - being, "replace for Gilmore Lite," I thought that would mean "neutral Dynalo design." Not that I've heard either, but maybe the KICAS (neutral) can compete ably with the GLite. Not to mention Purity Audio amps are $300 now, while I paid $400. Mine sounds good enough that I don't feel that bad over the $100, though.

Where the hell have you been, Ryan? I guess it's safe to call off the search and rescue team now. wink.gif

The new Dynalo is an obvious choice, but also read through the Shiit Asgard thread. I still haven't heard one, but it was a raging FOTM not too long ago.

They are actually having a sale for $229CAD+shipping for a blue edition, very good price for these amps.  I really like mine.

Sorry if I wasn't clear.  I meant to say that Gilmore Lite is very good at what it does, and still a very good choice.
