I can't stand this. How can I defend rap if artists can't produce a single decent sounding album?
I got my HD580's with HD650 drivers about a week ago. I love them but they are oh so revealing. Lately (for some odd reason 
) I have been listening to a bit of new rap, specifically Kid Cudi and the ever-so-lovable Kanye West.
Kanye's whole album (My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy) sounds like s***. The beats are nice but the mastering has blobs of bass and ear tearing sibilance. I first thought it was my headphones (since I got them used) but no.
Everything else sounds fine; Sinatra, Led Zeppelin, and Louis Armstrong are all great and fine; no sibilance. The funny thing is N.W.A. from 20 years ago sounds better as far as mastering goes.
Rap is not the only culprit. The new Kings of Leon album sounds worse than their previous two. The music and the mastering this time though.
This just keeps on giving me more justification not to listen to current music. Even the purposely-poorly-recorded mathcore music I have sounds great in comparison.
