MF AMS100 - Pure Class A amp designed to literally melt your speakers ...

I guess for those with industrial-strength aircon and a listening room the size of an aircraft hangar, amps like this (and its big brother, the Class AB 'Titan') make a lot of sense:

For the rest of us, does your house insurance cover first-degree burns to errant party-goers who stagger into your amp ? I'll leave you with MF's parting words :

The AMS100 has been designed for an elite band of audiophile purists who want the ultimate Class A amplifier ever made. We don’t expect to sell many. Those lucky few who get their hands on one will be fulfilled.

Hmm - fullfilled or char-grilled ?   :)

kind of stepped in it with their marketing BS - "Separate power supply for each half of the bridge. This allows each half to operate perfectly. It is highly significant for dynamic stability."

and " There are many advantages to a bridged amplifier; lower distortion and huge power supply noise rejection. These advantages are even more significant in a pure Class A configuration."

are technically incompatible statements - the huge PSRR advantage of bridged Class A output derives from the opposed half bridge dynamic currents summing to zero in the Common power supply rails

the PS schematic won't work as shown - there must be a common gnd rail connection between the 2 half bridge supplies - which will carry the full load current between the "separate" supplies

push-pull Class A only need dissipate the max power -so 2x 200W could meet the Class A 4 ohm specs

Thanks jcx - I've never taken too much of what Antony Michaelson says as gospel, as each successive MF product seems to be instantly deemed 'best of breed' by his marketing legions. I guess people like Branson have proved that you can make a brand successful simply by talking it up at every opportunity, but I tend to prefer the brands that allow their product to do the talking. Now if I could just *afford* those products, life would be sweet.  :)
