MP3 Tag Missing from Windows Explorer

Thread Starter

not sure if this is the right sub forums but can't find anything else more suitable. I have a problem and hoping if any of the forum members know the solution.

My windows explorer is suddenly not showing the MP3 Tags from the music files. it USED to be able to. (see screenshot below)

A check with MP3Tag software shows that there are no issues with the tags itself, seems to be an issue with Windows Explorer.

I have done reseach and the best solution i could find is to register "shmedia.dll" but it didn't work for me.

Any advice is appreciated. Thanks !

I've had this problem too.

A good method that ive done was delete the tag data with mp3tag and then ctrl-z to undo

sometimes  the tag data is corrupted somewhere that mp3 tag cant detect.

So basically mp3tag will recreate the tag data without the errors using a newer set of tag refrences.

Hope this works

Do you use foobar2000? If so it writes ID3 v2.4 tag by default which Windows does not support. Enable ID3v2 writer compatibility mode in foobar2000 Preferences -> Advanced and rewrite your tag (select forced preferred tag writing.... too).
