In-Line Volume Control?

I have a slight hearing problem so one side is louder than the other. To solve this problem on all systems, I'm thinking of getting an in-line volume control to manually balance the sound. Is this the best way to go about solving this problem? Can it affect sound quality? And is there a recommended model? I don't want to spend too much but I don't want a terrible product. The product in the link below looks like it could do the trick, but I don't want to pull the plug until I'm sure of my options/the product quality.

It seems like this is exactly what you need.  I dont know of any "audiophile" versions though.
