B-Tech BT928 Headphone Pro: is it powerfull enough to drive the DT-880?

Hi my name is Alexander and im slowly but certain turning into an audiophile (or atleast i think i am^^) and im about to buy my first real pair of headphones after 1 year with my koss ur40s(they were kinda sharp and the bass was muddy). At first i considered getting a closed pair of headphones like the senn hd280pros or a pair of open ones like the hd580 but i get the impression that dt-880 is good and semi closed(isolates some sound?)
its not to expensive compared to the hd 600 or the hd 580. i got enough money for the dt-880s and a b-tech928 and im going to use them for my comp wich has a built in soundstorm
(actualy it beats the crap out of my audigy 1 player and it has a equalizer with the nforce drivers)

the specs on b-tech928:

Technical Specification - Input impedance: 10k ohms. Input: 500 mV - 700 mV. Output: Suitable for stereo headphone 20-200 ohms. Signal / Noise ratio 90 dB. Channel separation >75dB. Power 15 V DC. 200ma

the dt-880s are 250 ohms.. will the amp be able to give me proper sound from the dt-880s?

i might consider upgrading it by changing the components but soldering skills are limited

i use my pc for gaming and listning to music and im looking for a goodsound\comfort\isolation combo since i often sitt at my comp 8 hours a day.. is the dt-880 + b-tech 928 a good choice?

im thankfull for any replys

Hiya...

I don't think that its a matter of how powerful it is, I just think that it would be majorly outclassed by the DT880s...

They demand a clean sounding amp (the same way that the Senn HD600s do), and this budget amp, whilst putting you onto the ladder, really wouldn't do the DT880s any justice imho

this review says its not to bad for the price and halway decent sounding with stock components.. i could always upgrade it later if i feel the need..

any other good headphones that dosnt need that much juice to sound great?

Why not get something from www.headsave.com ? Pretty much any of those amps will drive the DT880s quite well.

Agreed... the Headsave MiniMe will kill the BT928, and it's only about $60 more (including the regulated wall wart). The reason is that it has a much better op-amp, much higher quality capacitors and resistors and the basic circuit (MINT) is probably better as well.

Oh i forgot to mention the fact that i live in norway and im not keen on paying 25% taxes + shipping to order something from the states :\

the b-tech 928 goes for about 600 nok .. and the minime would prolly be twice as expansive if i order it from the us

another posability is to get a pro-ject headbox but i heard that it sounds pretty dead and that its not worth the money its about 2000 nok so i prolly would be better of ordering a minime or something a bit more expansive?

the review says that b-tech 928 is good bang for the buck and i could upgrade it later?

Hi...

That review is from one of the members here... pinkfloyd...

How he upgraded it was to completely strip down the board, and re-populate it with better grade components...

...Its probably not bad for the price, but i have a feeling that you'd be left wanting more...

Actually, Norm (Headsave) is in Canada. I don't know if that would change anything, but you wouldn't be ordering it from the States.
