Anything better than the Audio-GD Fun for the money?

I am about to buy the Audio-GD Fun for my Sennheiser 650's. I will also be purchasing the Earth and moon opamps. Total cost shipped will be roughly $450...

Is there anything else out there that is better for the money?

I'm on the same boat as you... really debating whether or not to get the FUN or the nuforce HDP searched the forums but didn't get as many results than i would've liked. I've read that lots of ppl say the HDP pairs well with the 650s but then i also read that the FUN also matches well. I like the HDP's size but the FUN's slightly lower price is intriguing as well as the ability to upgrade them w/ other parts.

Wounder how a FUN would sound compared to NFB-11 or NFB-12 and the later 2 comes with a much more advance DSP and dual 8741 instead of a single 8741 wolfson in the FUN. All 3 are using the ACSS amplifier at the output, but the FUN include a OPA just after the DSP. The 2 newer dsp/amp combo are much cheaper as well. but comes with a smaller transformer.

thanks for the info I've added the 11 to my list of candidates possibly replacing the FUN

Ugh, now you guys have me second guessing my purchase...

i'm sure the fun will work fine with the 650s. from what i've read thus far it pairs well w/ the 650 just i would've liked more comparisons b/w it and the hdp lol but only a few people have both to do comparisons

Hmm, i so want to bite the bullet here lol. Kingwa already gave me the price, which is right by my $450 margin with the 2 opamps... I am just wondering if i would be better off getting the Asus Xonar DX and an Matrix M-stage.... maybe ven get a udac for now...

i hate the fact that there are so many decisions to make and not enough time/places to test everything out lol..

Bit the bullet and ordered the Fun with Earth and Moon OPA's... I Hope these help the Senns sound sweet.

nice. congrats on your purchase!

I've been talking to audio-gd and they say the pre-order has closed for the NFB-11 and that I'd have to ask them in middle of Dec. to see if I can get on the list after they fulfill their current pre-order. The FUN is now back in the picture but i'm also wondering if the NFB-12 would be a better choice... It lacks the customizable opamp and the analogue line in but is $145 USD. I will likely not have money for additional gear for a while and this purchase will be my sole DAC/amp combo to go along with my soon to arrive hd650s. Anyone have any suggestions as to which one of the 2 I should get?

I did not know it is $145 from the website it is 200 without shipping. I am also deciding between the 3, Fun NFB11 or NFB12. Thinking what I will do if I was KingWa who have launch the compass around Early  2009 and the FUN in Jan 2010 . I would be designing the replacement for FUN anytime now and would likely announce it somewhere early 2011. Which means if I order one now it might be replace very soon. That is what I am holding back for

For me the fun was the obvious choice. I realized that between all of them the fun had all of the inputs/outputs I would need. I want to use the Dac for music, I want to bypass the Dac when gaming so that cmss doesn't get messed with in games. plus I can hange the sound signature if I get bored or decide on a different sound just because lol. As for waiting, being a pc nerd I hav learned to buy now and not worry too much about what is coming. Unless you have a fat wallet it is really hard to keep up with new gadgets. I figured the fun fulfilled my needs now, so why wait...

Good idea... i have a feeling i might be doing the same... might wait for the next "FUN" that uses the new sabre chip

OP, my head-fi journey mirrors yours, but in reverse. Hopefully I'll have the HD650 by next week but the anticipation is killing me.

It must've been one of those priceless Kodak moments when I first heard my Fun (like when I first heard the MS-1i). I'm sure I had a stupid grin and numerous aerial fist pumps were thrown. I'm anticipating the same experience with the HD650 based on what I've read.

Good call on going for Earth and Moon as well, the added versatility is worth the small expense. Please post impressions here when the Fun (the Awesome as I refer to it) arrives.
