I tried doing acrylic paint on headphones once. It's really a terrible paint to use on plastic, although I think my paint job worked out a little smoother...

Painted headphones can look good.  Even purple can be pulled off if applied correctly.  Unfortunately I think your project failed because the paint job is so poor.  Just giving my opinion.
