I'm getting the yearly bug to upgrade my rig, hurray. Right now I'd say I am fairly happy with what I have but I'm ready for something different/much better. I like my HD650s so I'd definitely like to keep them with whichever upgrade I end up doing.
2 questions:
1. I'm on the waiting list for a pair of Audeze LCD-2s and so far no other headphones have grabbed my attention in my budget bracket (up to $1k). I'll decide when I get the "call" if I want to buy them or not. My reason for my interest in them is from the reviews I have read and also that I would like something slightly different than the 650s but not too much in terms of sound (like say the HD800s). Should something else be on my radar? I really like the sound signature of the 650s but I feel like it could use a bit more detail and "speed". I listen to all sorts of musics from rock to rap and acoustic.
2. My amp question is: do you guys (and girls) think that I should buy an amp right away while waiting for them or should I try them out with MKIII first and see how it pleases me? I'm thinking it might not sound too great out of the amp I have, and If I end up not buying the LCD-2s a new amp might renew some excitement into the 650s... so I guess the amp would need to have great synergy with both of them. I am not interested in a balanced setup.
From my Head-Fi research so far, I've seen a couple of amps mentioned as being great with both, namely the Woo WA6 (and SE). But no real "this is it" concensus for an LCD-2 amp...My budget would be a max of 1-1.2k. Another option would be to get an SS amp for the Audeze and keep the MKIII for the 650s.
Thanks for any suggestions/help :)
