what to do with Background noise?

hello

Ive recently bought my headphone set, beyerdynamic DT800 and an amp\dac combo Yulong D100, but im keep getting Background noise and i suspect the problem is with the power cable.

now i know i can buy an expensive  power cable but do i need to replace the source? i have one wall socket and a standard six Power splitter with is connected to computer system and the dac\amp,

so whats else should i get to get rid of the Background noise?

tnx

I strongly doubt the problem is the power cable. You might have a ground loop, noise from the computer or an issue with RFI. Even a four figure cable wouldn't change any of that.

Why don't you tell us more about the noise and how your rig is set up? You should be able to have a noise-free listening experience with the cheapest of cables.

I use power cables I pick up at the local electronics swapmeet for about $1 each. My backgrounds are dead quiet because I use discrete components (standalone players, not a noisy computer), have no sources of stray RFI near my gear, and I use an isolation transformer.

What kind of noise is it? Hiss, hum, buzz? I would find out what is generating the noise and/or try to isolate it. It may have nothing to do with the power cord. It could be the amp or an associated component, a grounding issue between devices (e.g. ground loop like UE suggests).  I would identify the issue before you try swapping AC cords.

Does it make noise without the source? Are they plugged into the same outlet? Have you tried lifting the ground (not always recommended due to safety, but can tell you if it's a ground issue. Just be careful.)

It's most likely interference from the pc, if you have the dac connected via usb get a usb cable sheilded against RF interference, also you try putting ferrites on the power cables, i'd put 1 at the plugging in end of the power splitter, 1 at the plug end of the pc power cables , 1 at the back of the amp/dac where the power cord goes into it. you could buy a new power cable for the amp/dac it doesn't have to be that expensive or fancy just have decent sheilding no benefit is gained from silver or anything in a power cord just the sheilding, theres well shielded power cables here: http://markgrantcables.co.uk/ , look at the DSP range there around £40-60 depending on the length you need.
