me too.....i also like good, deep, precise bass, but also tend to listen to acoustic (Jack Johnson), folk....etc.

I was told that rap, hip-hop also works well on the ie7, something i also hear a lot.

So... i suppose the ie7 is quiet good for me.

what genres do u listen to?

have u tested cowon?

I somehow try to find out, how to combine the functionality of the ipod and the sq of the cowon.

seems something really impossible............is really annoying

The last Cowon I owned was the X5, hmm, probably about 8 years ago.  To be honest, I didn't like it.  For some reason it just felt too sterile for me.  At the time, I was listening with ER-4Ps.  They didn't play well together for my taste.

I'm very, very tempted by the J3 though.

so do u plan to buy the J3?

is it impossible to get great sq and functionality into ONE player?

My S9 functions perfectly for music and movies, which is what it was made for... Flat out better than Ipods in this regard, but if you mean features, then sure, it doesn't have apps, Internet, etc. but what it does do, it does better than any other player I have ever used, interface included, as in better than an iTouch, Zune, Walkman, and like models.

How does the eq app work, is it good?

so I was in the same delima a few weeks ago. I went with the cowon. If you listen to the cowon without any EQ on its better than the ipod touch (wider soundstage+more warmth) but its not a huge difference. only slightly noticable. But when you play around when the BBE settings, or use one of the BBE EQ's theres no comparison and the SQ on the cowon becomes much better than an ipod touch.
