Looking for a good Indie Rock CD.

Hi Head-fi!

Long story short, I am wanting to get an Indie Rock CD for a girl I'm going to thank for helping me with end of year school exams. Today she told me she was really into Indie Rock so I would greatly appreciate anyone's help on finding a good CD in the genre, thanks in advance.

(I was thinking along the lines of Phoenix, The Radio Dept etc.)

Try Wilco's "Yankee Hotel Foxtrot" or "In the Aeroplane Over the Sea," by Neutral Milk Hotel.

Ghinzu - "blow". Awesome band from Belgium. She'll think you're so romantic and intellectual when you buy her this... :p

Most albums in this list are regularly labelled indie rock. All of them are great, and if she knows her stuff she probably already owns several of those.
You could go the extra mile and give her one of the landmark albums of the last two decades in vinyl form, as a collector's item.

+1 for Minus the Bear, although I like their first album better

Recently I've been listening to a bit of TV On The Radio.

I love me some Foals. Total Life Forever is a great album and if she likes phoenix, will probably like them too. If you want more traditional Indie, Neutral Milk Hotel - In the Aeroplane Over the Sea is incredible.

MMJ is one of my favorite indie groups and this concert CD is really well recorded

Thats what I was thinking, she probably has heard or owns most of those already.

Anyway I will throw in a couple of my older favourites;

Bright Eyes - I'm wide awake its morning

The Strokes - any of their albums

The XX - Out of the more recent albums this is definitely "up there" with the best although it was such a big hit, chances are she already owns it.
