Well, we all know what format is best for long battery life, undeniably...Kenwood's MD Players have the best, over 170 hours on a NiMH and AA...it's madness (sorry to be a little OT).
Are you serious??? Wow. I thought the 70-hour life of my E900 was impressive

If you are seriously going to use it as a work unit, woudn't you take the cradle and leave it there??
Exactly. The only time you really need really long battery life is if you're going to be away from any source of power for longer than you will listen. I have the iPod dock on my work desk, and a FireWire cable at home. When I go on a trip somewhere, if I'm going to be listening for more than 8 hours, I either bring the power adapter (which is really small -- the iPod and the power adapter together are still smaller than some of the players on the market), or a FireWire cable if I have my laptop with me. I contend that battery life is overrated for all but a few people. (Yes, those people do exist; I just think they're a significant minority.)

Heck, most don't even use them for more than a few hours at a time.
I am that person. I played with the Karma, Zen, and am debating about whether or not to handle an ipod at compusa...

You should check out JVC's new XM-C3 minidisc player. 315 Hours of battery life on one AA and one NiMH. You can probably go a year without charging if you listen sparingly. I've gone two months without recharging my DR480 (with just the NiMH only) since I listen to it sparingly.

I borrowed my friend's 3G iPod and i must say it is a very nice piece of equipment. Since I am slowly rebuilding my iTunes playlists, I might just go back to an iPod, but I am going to wait another generation to see what changes are made.

That's simply incredible. What did they have to do to sound quality and output power to get that sort of battery life? (I'm guessing that estimate is based on LP4.)

JVC units suck, so that's why I didn't mention it.
