Suggestions for desktop amping high end IEMs

Hey all,

Looking into high end IEMs like JH and the sort, but the only amp I own is designed for high impedance cans and so low impedance high sensitivity IEMs hum quite noticeably. Does anyone have suggestions for a desktop amp for this situation?

Price isn't really too much of an issue and I would assume amping requirements for these would mean a cheaper amp anyways. Since I've always owned high impedance cans I've never shopped for this type of amp and am thus not familiar with the selection. No portable amps please.

Thanks

the Woo audio 6 fits your bill. it has a switch on the back that changes the output power so it would be ideal for both IEMs and full sized cans.

it is also said to be very quiet.

Any other suggestions? I was thinking an Asgard would be uniquely suited to running these due to it's topology.

HeadAmp GS-1/GS-X? HeadAmp amps are among the quietest that I've ever heard.

Good suggestion. I have thought about those before, but not in regards to IEM usage.

Theoretically speaking, SS amps with their higher current output "should" fare better for IEMs due to their low impedance (relatively speaking compared to full sizes). However, the WA6 is transformer coupled so it would probably be no slouch either. I've heard plenty of other head-fiers having success with the WA6 and WA6SE and they're apparently really quiet as well; I was actually looking into the WA6 for use with a pair of my IEMs.

I've also heard of success with the GS1 and the Sonett (which is supposed to be dead quiet). Although the Sonett is on another price level all together.
