Review: Unique Melody Miracle 6 driver custom IEM - Page 18

It would be nice if you could give us some thoughts about them compared to your full-sized LCD-2s when you've given them some serious listening.

I hope mine will fit as good as yours!

When did UM receive your impressions? When did they finish building the IEM?

molds received 10.18

shipped 11.23

Received today 11.25 *2 freakin days from china - dang!*

i dont know when they actually finished them, but i would  assume it was very close to the ship date

O.O 5 days turn around time? Surely thats a typo, hearing what I've been hearing from the rest of the people waiting for their UM customs? etysmile.gif

Mine might take a bit longer due to the rather.. difficult custom art, haha. But if I can get my Miracles before Christmas then I'll be one satiated child :p

Hello everyone,

Finally, I received my Miracles after two months of waiting (no thanks to UPS). I have been listening to them constantly since getting it four hours ago.

I've been switching it back and forth with my Earsonics SM3. Also trying out between my Cowon D2 & Ipod Touch 2nd Gen.

My first impressions:

  • Fit is perfect. Sound isolation is slightly better than my SM3. I've tried to find a way to see if there will be changes by chaning my head's positions. I'm so glad to have received such great fitting customs (cheers to my audiologist and UM). I dreaded receiving my custom and having a bad fit as it would have ruined EVERYTHING not to mention the fact that I have to send it back.
  • Cord is slightly longer than my SM3's. The length of the Y split on the cord is just enough to avoid the choking feeling while wearing the SM3's in front.
  • I'm not too familiar with audiophile terms so I apologize for not being able to do a proper review. In short though, I'm liking what I'm hearing out of the Miracles.

Time to listen to more music! Till next time, here are some pictures.

PS. Thanks to Stephen Guo of custom-iem.com for his great customer service. Also, thanks to UM Global for helping me sort out the shipping problems.

I just realized I'm on someone elses review thread lol...I thought I was on the appreciation thread...anyway MODs just move my post if need be : P

indeed that was a typo - 10.18, not 11.18

comparing briefly  and with not a lot of experience yet with the miracles -

lcd-2's vs miracles:

both straight out of my ipod or clip+  ..obviously not ideal for either one...

bass is superior on the lcd-2's

If there is one aspect of the miracles that I am less than thrilled with its the bass.. the bass does not extend as well, it is not as full and impactful, and its a little mono-tone sounding.. the notes aren't as defined..   not to say its bad, but I need more time getting used to it to properly evaluate it.  its not to say that the miracle bass insnt loud enough.. its really the quality that is suffering, not the quantity.. adding more quantity does not help the situation.

overall the lcd-2 sound more... well more like an ortho - silky smoothe, full and crystal clear.. robust, powerful, very musical, while the miracle sounds a little thinner.. though it does do a pretty good job of maintaining a smoothe musical sound and definitely still sounds excellent in this regard.

the lcd-2's have more sparkle, more treble definition and volume

overall the lcd-2's seem to have more speed, and revovery.  they are able to handle fast multi layer music better.

the miracles do a better job of seperating and placing instruments and voices in certain places than the lcd-2's  - i would not necessarily say i prefer one over the other in this regard though.. just different.

made a signifigant discovery today.

something just wasn't sounding right..

the more i listened, the more everything was sounding a bit congested... sort of muddy.

I had tried every configuration of eq i could think of.. ran frequency rolls, sine-gen, but i couldnt get the sound right especially the bass, the notes were sounding monotone, and the rest of the range was just not seeming at its potential for a pair of $1000 IEM's.  I was getting annoyed.

i did some seal tests, though i was sure i was getting a perfect seal...

finally i began comparing with my LCD-2's - oh they sounded so clear...

finally I zero'd in on the frequency curve around 120hz and after several tweaks i had let out 6 decibals in and around 120 hz in a single curve.. quite a bit to remove, but necessary, any less just didnt cut it.. get it.. cut it.. ;-\

suddenly everything gelled.. with the muddied bass out of the way all the other frequencies fell into place.

So now i can settle in and start listening. ;-)

Yes, don't mistake it for UE turn around wink.gif

Got my UERM about 7 days after RMAF was over. Had a slight mis-fit, they had them for 2 days and I had them back again 3 days later. One of a few reasons (besides sound) I'm glad I didn't go with UM.

I don't intend to troll this thread, but after seeing the wait times the UM group buy is experiencing I can't help but be sad for them. They paid their money before I even went to RMAF, and some of them are still waiting for their customs, while I've had mine for a few weeks already.

First impressions (from Friday continuous listening till today):

Bass is plentiful. Extends very deep. But bass notes are 'rounded'. Drum beats may feel a little loose. (Compared to ER4S).

Mids are excellent. Perhaps the thing I like best about this earphone. Not overly forward like the ER4S but has the 'surround sound' feel and I can gauge easily how large the recording room is.

Highs are trash. Sounds like noise most of the time, because there is a brickwalling of the frequencies (seems to be a peak somewhere at 5.5k). When cymbals hit, they sound like noise, the echo is too long and there is not enough air for the cymbals to shine / ring through. So when you have a fast paced song, you cannot distinguish the cymbals, and you just hear continuous 'tsssst'. Not sibilant kind, but just like 'noise'.

The redeeming factor about this earphone is that it has a very balanced frequency presentation - there is no particular emphasis on any specific region above. Also, the spatial presentation is excellent in that sound cues and imaging are very good. Although as a whole I would only rate the sound 'good' and definitely not 'excellent'. I certainly don't claim to be more credible than |joker| who rated it 10/10 on his scale, but don't get your expectations too high.

I've waited a lot longer for UE in the past.

I think you take a chance when you order customs, no matter what company you go with. For example - if a few dozen people order in the same week, things might go pretty fast, but what if 80+ people all happen to order at the same time? I'm sure that even Westone or UE would get bogged down if the amount of orders is high enough. But they probably have a higher threshold before that would happen.

I didn't get that same impression of the highs at all. I wonder what is causing that?

I wonder too. Source was Audinst HUD-MX1. Same source I used with the ER4S, yet the cymbals sounded okay on that one.
