MP3 file name

I have all these MP3s like 6500

I want all of them not to look like this- (Jimi_Hendrix)-Manic_Depression.MP3

but like this Jimi Hendrix -Manic Depression.MP3

is there any utility that would make it easier then having to manually rename all the ones that are like that?

Thanks-
Green

If they have ID3 tags, you might want to take a look at MP3 Tag Studio. I've been using it for a couple years now and am pretty happy with it. It's very flexible and makes it easy to go from file names to tags and back to file names if you so desire. I often name my files differently for use on a MP3 CD than I do for long term storage. MP3 Tag Studio makes it easy to rename all the files for the CD. I usually copy them to a temp directory and work from there, but you could just as easily change the names in place and then change them back again when you've burned the CD. I believe the standard distribution of MP3 Tag Studio is adware, which I know annoys a lot of people, so be forewarned. (I've had a registered copy for a long time so I'm not entirely sure what's happening with the adware in the current version.)

Of course, if the files don't have ID3 tags, disregard all the above.

Well its for Win2k

the main reason for wanting to get all the filenames correct is for alphabetical playlists that put the special character stuff first.

Thanks and keep suggestions coming-

Anybody know of a utility that would take out the parenthesis and underscores just by doing a search on the files?

Hack.. Do all your mp3s have the same format as your sample: (Jimi_Hendrix)-Manic_Depression.MP3

Are they all named exactly like this? If not, I don't think you'll find a utility to actually scan your files for you and rename them. Unless you ripped the files and used CDDB and they have ID3 tags. Then you can take the previous suggestions and it will work.

Roll up your sleeves, grab a tall glass of iced tea (sweet of course) and get to renaming.

I'm sure there are a number of them for Windows. (I've never had to find one, though, since when I need to do something like this, I just mount my Windows drive on my Mac and use the OS X tools.)
