1) Are the Miracles very hard to drive? Would they sound terrible out of an unamped mobile phone such as the Xperia Z1 Compact? They are very easy to drive, but don't respond well to a high output impedance on the device so make sure you get a player with output impedance <1 ohm - some devices don't list this unfortunately

2) Any recommendations for a portable DAP to use with the Miracles? I'm not a fan of a dark veiled sound and so I guess that something which brought out the mids and sub bass more would be good. Also, the more portable the better. The Fiio X5 is excellent, as is the X3, but the X3 is a bit darker so depends if you like a more bassy sound overall. The iBasso players are also good by all reports. It's worth getting an "audiophile" portable as they will sound noticeably better than an iPod with the Miracles

3) I know some people aren't a fan of the Miracles' bass. I'm not a basshead but is there a universal IEM that the Miracles have comparable bass to? I assume the quantity is more than the Etymotic range for example. The Miracles have great bass, but not enhanced bass. I haven't heard the Etymotics, but have owned similarly neutral phones like the Re-0 and Re-272 from HiFiMan and the Miracles have noticeably more bass than these, but are not enhanced as such.

Thank you in advance.

I've tried many different IEMs lately including some much more expensive options like Mentors, TG334s, and Parterres. The Miracles continue to hold their own and actually be more enjoyable to my ears than almost anything I have heard because they are just so well balanced from top to bottom. I am planning to buy some TG334s for a completely different sound, but would not consider replacing the Miracles because they are just perfect at what they do. Go for them, you won't regret it!

The AK240, using a silver balanced out cable makes the Miracle absolutely outstanding. If you check my post a few pages back, I talked about where there was a wind blowing or some sought of low rumble sound at the beginning of a song and I swear I FELT it not just heard it. No missing bass at all. The combo is all revealing and the range of sound is as tall, from high to low as is possible to hear. AK240 balanced out to Miracles, I cannot think there is anything better, not that I have compared other customs IMO.

The diff to the 334s......first we have to remember that I am listening with a 000 cable, single ended. The 334 is slightly veiled in comparison to the Miracles. There is more bass but not as articulated as with the Miracles. IF, I had to pick one.......I could not and the reason is, the Miracles give about 90-95% isolation and I think would be dangerous using in a mall, or walking across a street as no outside sound would get in. The 334s give about 80-85% isolation and I think I would be aware of a danger situation if it presented itself.  On a plane (only use on a plane) I put the Miracles in once I know my wife and I are not going to be talking because with the Miracles it's a pain in the arse to take them out and put in to hear what she is saying, whereas the 334s, its a simple pull and reinsert.

Sometimes I just keep listening to the 334s the whole plane ride rather than switch.

I really enjoy the 334s and the Miracles. I'm glad I can go back and forth between the two.

Saraguie, do you find the 334s bass to be too loose sometimes? That seems to be the complaint I read from other owners. I love the way they image and the fun signature they have so just want to make sure that the bass isn't going to annoy me in the long run.

IMO, I don't think it would annoy you. I enjoy the bass and sometimes wish there is was even more of it just the way it sounds. Remember, fit is most important. Find the right tips and you will be very happy with them.

Update. I'm waiting for my son at his sports class. Listening to the 334s w 000 se cable. As AnakChan will attest there is something alluring, addicting about the sound. Thoroughly enjoying what I'm hearing.

Dont worry if there is bass in a track the Miracle will let you hear it. Ok not lots of rumbling bass, but quality bass.

Personally I am very happy with the Miracle and the Fiio X5 without amp. To me it was a huge improvement over the iPod (160 gb) with a Meier 2stepdance amp. The good thing (for my taste) about the bass is that it is not emphasized but that it fits really good in the spectrum. I play bass in group and with the X5/Miracle I can relatively easy distinguish the bassline in a song to be able to play it myself. I mean that it doesn't sound muddy at all.
With the 2Stepdance the bass is heavier.

Thanks for the responses. I'm planning to use the Miracles with a Fiio X3 unamped. I haven't purchased the X3 but I really want a decent portable DAP. I'm glad the bass on the Miracles seems to be present, but not overpowering. IEMs with strong bass actually cause me discomfort even at low volumes.

The X3 is quite a warm player so you'll definitely have enough bass with that plus Miracles, but no, the Miracles won't be overpowering :)

Do you think the X5 is too big or is it a money matter? Personally I think the price difference isn't as big as the difference in sound quality. Especially if you use the dap with a beast like the Miracle.

I sold my X3 last year to continue with the ipod/2stepdance, but I wouldn't want to get rid of my X5 anymore...I only use the ipod in my car now as I don't have a connection for the X5.

I just think the X5 would be too large for my intended use (commuting and walking). A friend let me try out their iBasso DX50 and I found it too big to carry around with me all the time. Is the X5 that much of a step up in sound compared to the X3? As long as the X3 will be a major step up from a decent smartphone, I think I will be happy.

Need some suggestion.

Would it be worth upgrading from Triple Fi 10 for $900?

or should I do a reshell with extra driver?

i say collect extra more and go for a Miracle at once, and Mentor in the future

Any recommendations for an after market cable for the Miracles? I'm still waiting to get them from the lab, but based on the comments in this thread I'm assuming something that brings out the mids more would be good. I wouldn't want to spend more than £100 unless there would be a noticeable improvement. Thanks

I can't say it changes the sound at all but the Estron Linum cable weighs about 6 or 7 grams and you won't feel like there's a cable at all - it kind of feels like you have bluetooth customs.
