Unique Melody Miracle Review & Impressions Thread

The thing about the FX700 is I don't really think it's mids are recessed overall. Basically it's the darn treble and bass that is so boosted that causes the feeling of recession. I actually find the mids quite neutral on the FX700s but the bass and treble steel the entire show at any sort of reasonable volume level. :frowning2: At low volume listening though they are superb and on the neutral side IMO.

I've had the Miracles for a while now, and find them to be one of the more challenging headphones to amp and this is owing entirely to the treble. I never did agree with the reviews describing them as treble-tilted, or sparkly. In fact, I found the treble distant, placed further back in the stage, and lacking shimmer. The ride of a cymbal was short, and somewhat detached from the rest of the spectrum. I didn't like them out of a Pico Slim, SR71A, SR71B. They improved with the Stepdance and a little more so out of the MK3, but the treble was still hard to discern and seperate from the immediacy of the bass. If you ever heard the HE6 and found the vocals on a forward plane, almost pushed forward by several feet from the rest of the ensemble, this is similar to the miracles treble, which was pushed back instead. Surprisingly the iBasso DX100, with its smaller soundstage (compared to the MK3) handles the Miracles beautifully. With my other customs I prefer using an external amp, but the Miracles are the exception. The treble has come forward and has pleasant clang and shimmer. The details are consequently pushed forward too. I still find them to be on the warmer side of things, but a definite improvement from before.

The bass is still the best I've heard, neck and neck with the Audezes, and they remain unchallenged in the jazz and classical department (for iem's). Tonally, they are on par with my other customs, but this field is where I feel iem's have no business competing with full-size, open headphones.

We obviously hear things differently. To me Miracle has a little extra treble, not less than neutral. This is one of the (many) reasons for me to go for the HM-901 instead of DX100.

It could be related to differences in fit, your ear canal shapes as well as inconsistencies with UM IEMs (probably what it is).

Mine is being reshelled into a universal so I'll see whether my impressions change.

I have the same experience as ericfarrell85 and do not find the Miracle to be sparkling and with some songs even a bit dark sounding (the mastering could be to blame too, probably). This is using an Ipod (Apple Lossles format) with 2Stepdance. Next week I should receive a Fiio X3 so I can try a different source. I'll have the opportunity to test the Miracles with a DX100 as well, but that'll take a bit longer. I'm affraid that (according to the same experience as ericfarrell85) that will be my future setup... Maybe the DX50 will help my wallet?

I'm with you here. Is it maybe possible that Unique Melody slightly changed the tuning recently?

Maybe, mine were produced somewhere in may and I had a demoset in april and if I recall well they sounded less dark. But they were also universal so that might have influenced the sound as well. Though I'm happy with the Miracles I still hope that changing the source will improve the sound of the songs that sound less sparkling at the moment. If not it has to be the mastering!

Actually the X3 is quite dark so it may not be optimum if you are looking for a brighter sound.

That's possible, but I'd still like to test it, at least I'll have something to compare the Ipod setup with. Anyway it's been ordered so I will get one. It will be the first time to test 24/192 files, wondering if that changes things.

i have mad dog now and they are not v shaped :< will keep it because of the nice isolation and get TH600 :p then start saving for TH900,

btw were the IE80 and SE535LTD-J V shaped too?

Just received my Miracles!

I purchased them from Stephen Guo (custom-iem), and despite the extended waiting time, his service is very prompt and friendly.

Unfortunately, will be RMA'ing my DX100 so my impressions with the DX100 would be delayed.
