I have Sennheiser PC360's and DT990's 320 ohm.. They are very similar.. I listened to Dre's Beats and I thought they blew the two former headsets away.. Explain to me how you guys think the Sennheiser's ect are better.. ?

I have Maxell DHP ii's that cost me $30 SHIPPED that destroy the Beats on every level.

Explain to me how you think the Beats are better.. ?

Also, the only Sennheiser's I have are the lowly HD238i's and they similarly crush the Beats on every level except bass extension.

PC360's really aren't that good, infact they are more overpriced then any beats.

I was amazed at how crap the Beats Studios are the other day when I thought I was trying on a pair of Solos as they were so small and plasticy. The sound was inexcusable for the price. They have the market absolutely wrapped around their little finger.

At first I thought what this was some sort of a test of the phones' internal "circuitry" as seen on many promo shots. Or a dis-assembly.

It's a difference in values.  The Beats are all about "the beat."  To get the most thump, the Beats are willing to sacrifice in other areas, such as clarity, speed, detail and soundstage.  On all those other fronts, the Sennheisers eat them for breakfast.

But still, I don't mind. If people really are willing to spend that much for the beats, there may be a good chance they will do some research...be enticed...and start to really appreciate good audio. I mean, I started out checking out Skullcandy, and now I'm looking for a tube amp that will drive my HD650's... and this happened within a month or so.

Pretty hilarious that Lovine is stating how the audio market is focusing on price/cheap sound, etc.. and he's basically relying on the name "Dre" and cheap fireworks like red/white colors to sell a bunch of poor-sounding headphones. What a crock. Just say you just want to make a boatload of money off of idiots.

You know, you're absolutely right. I'm a pretty new member of the head-fi forums. I was originally going to buy the Beats Studio by Dre, but decided to do some research. That basically began my interest in quality headphones.

I can tell this thread is going to keep popping up. This sort of stuff really gets us audiophiles in a tizzy. On the other hand, I think this thread stands as proof that we have little to worry about in the way of our hobby disappearing. As small a market as we might be, every one of us will only buy good gear. There are thousands of us here--probably at least a large plurality of the premium headphone-purchasing market. Even if a few of the big players fold due to poor business sense, others will step forward and (most importantly) new ones will emerge to meet the demand. Judging by this thread and the level of activity on Head-Fi, I don't see that demand going away, so it stands to reason that there will always be somebody willing to supply it.

Though we'd better hope that of those kids pictured on the Grado website, at least one of them has a good ear....

I never believed anything a teenage, plastic fantastic, sensationalist, craptastic marketing platform had to say and I after reading this marketing push of an article I still don't.

Why does the quantity of headphone's sold indicate quality according to that article. Toyota sell more quantity of cars than Jaguars and Mercedes Benz, does that mean everybody thinks that Toyota is superior?
