I sent an email to Head-Direct, all the new firmware does is allow the storage size to be seen in systems menu. mad.gif

There is only little improvement of the new firmware, that is you can read the memory capacity in system information in the player. For example, 4G, or 8G.

For example:
HM-601 Slim(8G) Portable Player $249
HM-602 Slim(8G) Portable Player $399

What are the major differences in term of sound quality between HM-601 (slim) vs HM-602 (slim)?
Which is a better choice to drive DT880 or AKG K550?

I have the exact same question. Looking at buying an HM 60... And I already own some k550's

Anybody else coupling the DT1350s with this player (using its headphone out) ? I could honestly say it's probably the best combination I've heard in my life. It's certain that these two were made for each other!

I have auditioned both the 601 and 602 side by side. Both sound great but if you're going to add external amps...they don't sound that much different.

FYI my HM601 with JDSlabs C421 can power my DT990 600 ohms to pretty good listening levels...gave my bifrost and EF-5 a run for their money.

agreed, my hm 601 [fat] can power my dt 880 250 ohms UNAMPED to good volume and good bass control. With an amp I', confident you could power 600 ohms  cans to. the crappy 4 hour battery life of the hm 601 is due to all the power it churns out!... I would hope >.>

Has anyone listened to the hm- 603 vs the hm601? I own the 601 but I'm interested in the 603 and would like to know the sound quality differences between the 2, besides power output.

When all the bars are set flat the EQ is disabled. Well, that's the impression I have with mine. Just set it flat.

You must have A TON of songs on your 601. Any tips on navigating the device. I find the user interface not too user friendly when wanting to find specific songs.

As all the albums are lossless, it gets filled up easily. User interface is real pain. I generally listen to one or two albums a max in a listening session. I don't mix the albums. Hence didn't find that as a hindrance.
