Do portable CD players drain much (power)?

I have this old Discman D-33. It takes four (4) LR-6 batteries.

Now, this thing is supposed to last 8 hours on one feed. I'm getting way less than that (let's say 5). I bought forty (40) said LR-6 batteries and in about a month, I am down to only eight left.

Now I'm weighing my options. Do I go get a) Lithiums or b) rechargeables. But all this seems to go around the drain of the device.

Some say that regular LR-6's can't take a high drain, and that rechargeables are much better for these devices. But some others say that rechargeables, mostly Ni-MH ones, last even shorter than regular LR-6.

Basically, what should I get once I chew through these 8 batteries in a couple of days.

What you need to do is download all your CDs in Flac. Next go out on Black Friday and get a 29.99 Clip+. That'll hold you over while you save up for a real high grade player or headphones or both.

I had a Discman years ago and finally bought an AC adapter for it and it never left the house. The battery ratings on those things are always overrated. They test them with the Volume control set at 1.

Um. Yeah, the whole thing about the question is that I have decided to not own a modern DAP. I sold my iPod to go back to vinyl and CD's.

Although that last phrase is scary, it doesn't really answer my question(s). Thanks anyway.
