So I've been buying, collecting & selling various PCDPs that I get from Goodwill (thrift store). As I was testing some out, I noticed this one Sony (so far) has loads of sub bass. The Bass button/setting is not even on. The model is D-E356CK, it says "Car Ready" in fairly big letters in the middle. I also have the D-E350 & D-E220, and they no where near the low sub bass as the D-E356CK.
I am using the headphone out with my stock K81DJs .. the bass is HUGE, but not muddy, distorted, clipped or anything .. just lots of ultra low bass. The CD I am listening to is "Atmospheric drum & bass volume 4". I have listened to about a dozen of other PCDPs and this 356CK just blows them away.
My question is, do the "Car Ready" PCDPs kick the sub bass up a notch? I'll have to rummage thru my collection for other "Car Ready" ones and see if they have ultra low bass.
edit: The D-NE510, Atrac3plus/MP3 model has similar bass, not quite as much as the D-E356CK. OTOH, the D-NE300 Atrac3plus MP3 has same quieter bass as the D-E350 & 220. This D-NE510 is a good middle ground of the ultra low bass, IMHO. Will keep looking thru my PCDP for more =)
edit 2: D-EJ106CK, has similar bass signature as the NE510, but the mid-high & highend seems more crisp/clear. One thing is for sure, I wish Sony had their volume display the same for all the players. The Atrack/mp3 ones just have a bar graph, while the non atrac/mp3 players have 0~9 and each number has three little bars.
edit 3: ... maybe my ears are tired, or I am .. cause I just double checked D-E220 .. and it has decent sub bass again. It's as low as the 356CK & at lower volume.
