Apple iBook G4 12": How does it sound?

Just wondering. It doesnt accept any PC cards, so whatever comes out of headphone out is what you are stuck with. It is not truly portable but close. It does feature instant wakeup enabling it to be used discretely just about anywhere, and some people even managed to patch the OS X kernel so it runs with lid closed, for instance playing back music while sitting comfortable in your backpack. I dont expect it to be able to compete with a true mobile music player, just wonder if anybody is using it (amped/unamped?) and what he/she thinks of it in sonic terms.

Thanks!

From what we have at school with the last generation of iBooks they don't sound all that great.
Just like your regular laptop.

So if you considering getting one the 15" will fit in a backpack just fine.

A friend that got a 17" manages to get his into his backpack.

I assume you mean PCMCIA cards by PC cards? Keep in mind you still have the USB options. M-Audio, Xitel, Edirol, etc. are all possibilities. There's no reason a laptop can't be a pretty decent source.

You wanna be careful putting a laptop in your backpack and moving about while it's actually running. I work at university tech support, and my university issues laptops to every full time student, it's called the Acadia Advantage. Anyhow, you wouldn't believe the amount of hard drives I've seen fail due to people moving about with their laptops while they're still running, basically using them as portable mp3 players.

Why not get a true mobile player? It's really inconvienet to take a laptop out just to change tunes.
