How should I buy electronica?

Now that I'm buying new headphones, I'm also starting to look at the quality of my audio.  I listen mostly to electronica with some rock and some metal.  Is my best bet to buy CDs?  Or is there a good source of high quality downloads?  I'm not really interested in using iTunes unless there's a really compelling reason to do so.  Ideally, I'd like FLAC audio if I'm downloading, but I don't know if that's feasible with the selection of artists I like.

Here are some of the artists I like:

Delerium

DJ Tiesto

Armin Van Buuren

The Thrillseekers

Ferry Corsten

Signalrunners

Oceanlab

Dash Berlin

Deadmau5

The Crystal Method

The Prodigy

Vocalists I like

Julie Thompson

Kristy Thirsk

Kirsty Hawkshaw

Jes

I know that emusic has some of these artists, but by no means all of them.  Is there anywhere else I should look?  Or should I stick with CDs and rip to FLAC?

Personally I can barely distinguish between 256 and 320kbps mp3s and possibly only a little when listening to FLAC (could just be mentally though) I think if your rip mp3s at 256kbps+ it should be fine. Just my $0.02

You could take a look at Soul Seduction - http://www.soulseduction.com/ - They have a nice range of house / trance / electronica / downtempo and you can download high quality WAV files.

I still like to shop the CD on Amazon and rip it, I personally like to have the physical product, sleeve notes, artwork ect.

I personally love CDs, my suggestion would be to go to a local used record/cd store or a local pawn shop and see what you can find.

When I did some tests on MP3 bitrate 5 years ago, or so, I remember finding something similar.  I was starting from CDs, which means that I had a fundamental limit of 16x44.1, so I wonder if that has something to do with it.  Of course, I doubt I'll find anything I listen to on SACD or HDCD.  If I could, it might be worthwhile to buy one and experiment with transcoding it, though if I remember correctly, it's not currently possible to extract an SACD stream.
