Best A/V receiver for under $1000

Hello,

I want to upgrade my a/v receiver and need help in getting the best audiophile-quality receiver for under $1000. I am using James loudspeakers (front, center and rears), and Polk audio 12" subwoofers. I plan to purchase amplifiers (looking at Yaqins for now). I listen mostly to music (CDs, iPod, mp3's and uncompressed digital music). From time to time I watch action movies.

I hope the great members of this forum can give me their recommendations.

Thanks!

I know the poor opinion many have of mag reviews, but I have heard this in a showroom and it lives up to the hype, at least IMO:

Google is your friend - you should be able to find numerous reviews of this very popular AV receiver, although I'm not sure what the street price is in your area.

B&K, Arcam, and Harman Kardon are good. I wouldn't recommend Denon for music unless it was an older model.

Give the Onkyo TX-SR608 an audition.

I actually like some of the Denon models.  They sound pretty good with headphones, especially Shure IEMs.

Thanks to all who responded. I am looking at Arcam, Integra and Nad.
