will the old Millett Hybrid drive 600 ohm phones?

Thread Starter

I have an older Millett Hybrid running 12FM6s for sale over in the for sale forum and I was asked if it could drive Beyer T1s...I dont know. It drives my HD-600s very nicely. I am hoping for one of the gurus to answer the question so my buyer can see for himself what the opinions are. Thanks...BTW if 12AE6As would work better, I have a set of those which could be substituted...

The gain is higher on the 12AE6A so it would be a better choice than the 12FM6 which is designed with low gain.

I won't comment on whether or not it will effectively drive 600 ohm headphones.

The 12FM6 represents the middle gain tube for Millett builds. The 12AE6 represents high gain and the 12FK6 represents low gain.

If I recall correctly, others have posted success when using 600ohm phones. There should be a post in the main miniMAX thread regarding this setup. In any case, the 12AE6 would probably represent the optimum part depending upon the gain need of the user.

Heck, vixr - he should buy one of your amps just for the privilege alone!
