Calling all New York residents!

I will soon be making a trip to New York and was hoping that some locals may be able to provide me with some info.

As Grado headphones are native to the US they are considerably cheaper than here in england. Would someone be able to provide a list of shops they know about that stock the Grado SR325is in New York so I can take a look while i'm there.

In addition, are there any decent places where I could get my Shure SE530 and Shure E4C re-cabled to a decent standard. Especially the SE530 as they have succumed to the usual cable split problem (I have already replaced them twice under warranty due to this but the warranty is now finshed).

Thanks

Mike

For new stuff:

J&R (they usually stock Grado products)

B&H (check web site)

They both have web sites that should let you know what's in stock. J&R is on my way home from work, which can be a dangerous thing. Good deals on CDs as well (often lots of jazz recordings on sale).

Perhaps a local Head-Fi'er could assist with the recable.

Excellent.

Thank you very much for your help nycbone. B&H have the SR325is at $295 (~£180). The cheapest i've seen them in the UK so far is ~£315, thats a pretty hefty saving.

Just hoping someone can help me on the re-cabling part now, and then I will have an excellent holiday!

Sure thing.

That's the suggested retail price for the 325is in the U.S. I doubt that you'll find them at a discount. BTW, the Grado factory is in Brooklyn.

J&R and B&H are the better places to try them out. You can listen to them at B&H but the setup is horrible but it can tell you about comfort. J&R I think you can use your stuff but I'm not sure.

As for prices typically it will be at MSRP and then add a bit under 9% for tax. It's cheaper than where you are from so it's not too bad.

I'd consider AudioCubes a must-visit in NYC too. They sell mostly Audio-Technica headphones (and other Japanese brands). I think they have 2 stores in NYC now.

I can verify this.  If you have a source with you, J&R will let you test your own stuff.  To see how much they don't mind I tried the HD800 and ATH-W5000 out of an adapter + P51 + Zune HD.  You can audition everything that's attached the walls and the ones in the glass display.

As for Audiocubes.  Not a big fan because they tend to have a poor selection of headphones out, a very bad setup and the last time I went 2 of the headphones had one or both busted drivers.

Thanks for all your comments. Very helpful.

Still no-one with recable suggestions?
