Cheap amplifier needed for Welling elegance 5b speakers

I recently aqquired a pair of Welling elegance 5B speakers on ebay. Cost me around $70 including postage but unfortunately our old sharp optonica amplification unit blew as soon as i was ready to plug the speakers in.

I have looked at the Sonic T-Amp Gen 2 from thinkgeek.com and also the possibility of a cheap sherwood RD-6513.

The speakers themselves are rated 20-80w. and 8 ohms impedance. I wouldnt be cranking the speakers much but as far as i know the sonic t-amp is only able to output 15w. Any advice would be much appreciated

Vintage receiver from the mid 1970's, these can be found for under $100 by the likes of Marantz, Technics, Harman Kardon, Pioneer, etc. A re-cap would be advisable as well as a good pot cleaning. Another option would be a new HLLY amp which can be found in eBay. Good luck.

Thanks for the reply, i did look on ebay but as it stands the current auctions i've been bidding on skyrocket at last second.

Also there is that possibility that a 2nd hand amp may die like the sharp optonica did.

I did however go to the hlly electronics website and found an abundance of amps.

The 90w version looks pretty nice too though Tripath TA2022, is on sale of $200 Australian too

Are their any real specific recommendations in regards to HLLY amplifiers?

bump. and in addition to my previous post does anyone have any experience with the little dot or Matrix M-Stage amplifiers?

Both the Little Dot & Matrix M-Sateg are headphone amplifiers. They can 't drive the Welling elegance 5B speakers. Even looked through the google search, can't seem to find the sensitivity of the speakers. Judging from the power requirement/handling, best to look for those amplifiers like NAD, Pioneer, Yamaha, Creek, Exposure, Cyrus, Arcam, etc. These amplifiers will give better juice to the speakers.

Thanks for that, i ended up finding out about the little dots not having an amp equivelent to the hlly 90w T-amp. I think i will scout ebay until something relatively cheap comes along then upgrade the whole lot when i have more cash to spend
