THE best female vocals? (your favorite female singers) - Page 153

Just found this thread, so I'm sure some if not all of these vocalists have been posted already but they are my favorites:

Ella

Billie Holliday

Peggy Lee

Astrud Gilberto (who can forget The Girl From Ipanema)

Flora Purim

Holly Cole

Claire Martin

Patricia Barber

Madeleine Peyroux

Gee, can you tell I like female jazz vocalists.  Not to discriminate, I like jazz without vocals too. :L3000:

I was idly surfing Nat King Cole SACD remaster rips on youtube, earlier, and happened to stumble upon this, in the side-links, from 'The Voice', Russia - it's a bit OTT, but nonetheless, this lass can really sing...

The most obvious similarity is to Aretha Franklin.

Not quite the same, stylistically, but decent pipes on these ladies, too:

Patti LaBelle

Bettye LaVette

Alice Russell

Laura White

Hope Murphy

Kiah Victoria

.

Call me an old-school romantic at heart, but my vote goes to NORA JONES' album, "Come Away With Me"... Sultry, smoky-edged voice, like a female version of Sinatra.. Classic--

I must have heard of Feist hundreds of times over several years. Somehow i never made the connection that this was a woman singer with a beautiful voice.

She has been mentioned many times on this thread but she doesn't really have a proper video link.

I realize this is kind of like naming Norah Jones or Dianna Krall, but here we go anyway.

Feist

I've always loved the voice of Essie Jain, and the opera singer Amelita Galli-Curci

(Jain)

(Galli-Curci)
