Need a budget electrostatic speakers under 2k

Several days ago, I went to a high-end speaker convention and I got a chance to listen to one electrostatic speaker. It was incredible. I dont know how to describe it, but the sound was very crisp and it feels as if theres actually a person singing in front of me. The instruments sounded real and the soundstage was very wide and deep. Anyways, it cost more than 30k so I dont think I'll be able to afford it in my lifetime.

Leaving that aside, can anyone reccomend me an electrostatic speaker that cost lest than 2k? I did some research and found a martin logan speaker cost about 1.5k so Im leaning towards that but I couldnt find anything other than that... help?

You might want to look into magnapan speakers as wrll, not elextrstatics but planar.

Go used.  You'll save a pile of cash.

Check Canuck Audio Mart, Audiogon and eBay for used Quads.  You'll find ESL-57 and ESL-63 pairs under $2,000.  My ESL-63s need a little surgery, but they were $650 for the pair.

Determine your room dimensions before deciding on a pair of stats. They need a decent sized room to spread it's web of soundstage. A cramped room with out treatments will sorely disappoint. A sub would be another consideration if the room is larger.

thanks for the input. My room is about 27'4 x 20'1 feet, is this enough to fit a pair of electrostatic in?

Your dimensions are a bit square-ish which is not the best, but I'd never let room dimensions prevent me from getting speakers (even stats). Placement and room treatment can go a long way. I've successfully set up a square room with a diagonal speaker placement which eliminated most of the issues.

As far as your room size, it's big enough IMO.

To fit your budget, the MartinLogan "Source" speaker runs for $999 each.. Thing is thought about 'em, the "sweet spot" will be pretty tiny.

Do you have to have 'stats? You can pick up quite a few other planars. Magnepans are wonderful as are Apogees and ESS AMTs. If you go used, you'll have quite a few to choose from.
